Learn how to use S3 Glacier service of AWS(storage service)
Amazon S3 Glacier is a reliable, versatile, and incredibly low-cost. Amazon S3 storage class for long-term storage and data cataloging.
Now the question is why we should choose S3 glacier if we have S3 storage service?
In S3 storage you can store data which you are going to use on a daily basis but if you are storing Archive data and restore on S3 it will be10 times costly than S3 Glacier. So you can go for S3 Glacier which is used to store archive data so it doesn't matter if you are not using your data for next 1 year also you don't have to pay for that on a monthly basis. but S3 is very fast in comparison with S3 Glacier, because S3 uses fast storage SSD while S3 glacier use hard disk for storing the data.
In this blog, we are going to learn about s3 glacier and, how to create the vault.
Step 1: First go to console login and select the first link.
Step 2: Enter your email and password to sign in to your console.
Step 3: Now you can see your dashboard and go to services and select S3 Glacier service from the storage part.
Step 4: Now you can see In the below image as we already created one demo vault. what you have to do is go to create vault button and click on it.
Step 5: As you can see select your region and give the name for your vault we gave the name as demo_vault you can give any name. and click on the Next button.
Step 6: After that, you can see in the below image you will get a screen to set the event notification if you want to enable any notification of SNS than you can choose the second option as we don’t want to we will keep it disabled. and we are choosing do not enable the notification option. and after that click on the Next step button.
Step 7: You have to review all the information to correct it, and after that click on the submit button.
Step 8: So you created your first vault as you can see in the below image, click on your vault name.
Step 9: Now you can see the details of your vault, even you can see the notification setting and you can set the permission by clicking on permissions, you can add tags by clicking on tags and you can lock your vault by clicking on the vault lock button.
So this is is how we create a vault in the S3 Glacier service. to upload data in S3 Glacier we need to get create an IAM role and we have to download some software for uploading data in S3 Glacier service which we are going to explain in our later blogs so stay connected with us. Thank You.
